This Week’s Most Exquisite TV Moment

March 18-24
“My Heart is Yours” | When Calls the Heart

Our hearts are soaring because most TV shows are back from hiatus and all is right in the world again. They kicked off Sunday with a brand new, hysterically moving episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a remarkable hour of Timelessand the long anticipated When Calls the Heart. Tuesday met us with an incredible episode of Black-ish and Wednesday’s Riverdale was something, alright. Life Sentence continues to establish its place, and Superstore is driving us crazy in all the right ways. But you guessed it, we’re here to talk about When Calls the Heart and the wedding we’ve all been waiting for.

I wrote about Jack Thornton and Elizabeth Thatcher’s engagement through my tears, so even back then I knew that no matter what would air this week, I’d have to write about their wedding, too.

2017 Year-End Reviews: 17 Little Gems

They are the scenes we watch over and over again — the scenes we can never seem to get enough of, and the scenes we remember for years to come. The Little Gems category was started last year for the moments that effortlessly became my favorites — the moments, which I found myself being moved by the most. While it was a little tough to choose them this year, we managed. And without further ado, our final installment of article for the year of 2017, our 17 favorite little gems.

Also, be sure to check out our Series of the Year | Stranger Things article, as the number one performances, characters, relationships, and moments are all featured there first. They deserved their own special tribute.

Best for last, don’t forget to check out what Heather (TV Examined) and Katie (Nerdy Girl Notes) had to say about their favorites this year. The best part of our year-end reviews is sharing them with such incredible, perfectly gifted writers — always managing to convince me to watch whatever it is they’re writing about.

25 Inimitable Men 25/25
Jack Thornton (When Calls the Heart)

Do you ever see a character and are automatically turned off by their behavior? That’s how I felt upon meeting When Calls the Heart’s Jack Thornton. I flat out couldn’t stand him and didn’t want him anywhere near sweet Elizabeth. And to be honest, I was a little worried with how the series would try to justify his unkindness, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it gave him an arc worth discussing while helping him become a character worth loving. I did imagine that I’d grow to care for Jack eventually but I never imagined the fact that he’d become one of my favorite characters some day. And when a series is able to do that, we can be certain of the fact that it’s done an excellent job in storytelling through character development. Jack Thornton is tremendously honorable, irrevocably loving, and profoundly understanding.

This Week’s Most Exquisite TV Moment

March 26-April 1
“My Heart Will Go On” | When Calls the Heart

It’s been a wild yet quiet week with Once Upon A Time’s heartbreaking episode and Madam Secretary’s intriguing hour following on Sunday. The Flash gave us one shocking twist after another. The Americans once again dealt with Philip and Elizabeth’s marriage beautifully. And Chicago P.D. broke our hearts 20-times more than before. But it was When Calls the Heart which left me bawling for an entire hour with a mixture of happy and sad tears.

25 Nearest and Dearest 16/25
Abigail Stanton and Elizabeth Thatcher (When Calls the Heart)

Accidentally stumbling onto a series is perhaps one of the most serendipitous things that could happen to a TV fan. When Calls the Heart is a gift I did know I needed, and it’s a gift that keeps on giving remarkably. When Calls the Heart brings friendships to life in a way that’s so beautifully written, it leaves me crying after almost every episode. (Happy tears, of course.) From the very first episode, Abigail Stanton’s warmth and grace spoke to my soul. The instantaneous kindness she showed Elizabeth when she moved to Coal Valley was inspiring. And Elizabeth’s spirit weaved beautifully with her longing for adventure was just what Abigail needed. Abigail Stanton and Elizabeth Thatcher are the kind of women with endless love to give thereby, finding one another was a gift neither of them ever knew they needed. And in beautifully profound ways, the friendship they found within one another completed them in ways they’d never expected.
