Spoilers Ahead

Abby finds out a big secret that Liv has been hiding thanks to her father.

Episode Summary: We meet our presidential nominees.

Review | Analysis: Abby and Olivia team up with Fitz and the Gladiators try to bring down their common enemy, Hollis Doyle. Because it is so natural for them to backstab each other, Abby starts digging up new dirt on Mellie. The Gladiators accuse Hollis of racism after he says a few questionable things. Of course, his poll numbers go up and one of his ex-wives comes into the picture and accuses him of rape. Again, as if he is immortal or something, his numbers keep going up. With Hollis winning at every turn, Abby desperate, decides to meet with none other than Papa Pope. Scandal 5×19 “Buckle Up” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Both parties pick the one candidate that no one considered “real.”

Episode Summary: Abby and Olivia have a fight, Mellie finds herself in a pickle, Cyrus’ life is falling apart and the next President of the United States is still up for grabs.

Review | Analysis: In this week’s episode, Scandal showed us a drama-filled version of how media everywhere depicts successful career women. Tensions were high when Abby pretended Air Force One was dealing with a mechanical issue that brought down Mellie’s plane. All the Democratic presidential candidates were looking for the  support of Florida’s governor.

Scandal 5×18 “Til Death Do Us Part” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

We finally learn about Jake’s biological family.

Episode Summary: Olivia returns to normalcy after killing Andrew two weeks ago, but it’s more about Jake.

Review | Analysis: With a slew of flashbacks, we learn that Jake’s father beat his mother and raped his sister. Jake feels somewhat responsible about not doing anything to help them. Once Rowan saves Jake from serving 10 years in prison, Jake ends up killing his father, which is what put him into B613. He’s been living with Rowan for quite some time now and so has Olivia after the stunt she pulled. Earlier in the season we were introduced to Vanessa and her money was being used to fund Edison’s campaign. However, in tonight’s episode, we learned that Rowan’s plans for the pair – Vanessa and Jake – goes far beyond campaign funding.

Scandal 5×15 “Pencils Down”, 5×16 “The Miseducation of Susan Ross”, and 5×17 “Thwack” Recaps

Spoilers Ahead

Olivia plays dirty in all aspects.

Episode Summary: As Olivia begins to be no-more-miss-nice-girl, other candidates join the race to becoming the next president.

Review | Analysis: Apparently a fast food burger joint can change a whole election. Tonight we got to see candidates win and lose the votes because of fast food. And this was all before the first debate even started. Olivia is running Mellie’s campaign and she has to turn her into a woman of the people. We all know Mellie is not exactly that person. In the focus groups, people called Mellie smug and arrogant. This is how the whole fast food burger incident happens.

The group decided that the best way to make her seem even remotely relatable is to have her eat cheeseburgers and talk about it. On the other hand, Elizabeth, Fitz and Abby have to deal with Susan Ross. She’s dealing with betrayal and heartbreak. Abby accidentally let it out that David had multiple girlfriends and Susan’s head never really went back to the people after that. Susan gathered up the courage and asked Fitz why he cheated on his wife and after that she dumped David.

Scandal 5×13 “The Fish Rots from the Head” and 5×14 “I See You” Recap

Spoilers Ahead:

Olivia comes face-to-face with Fitz.

Episode Summary: The Gladiators handle a Secret Service scandal.

Review | Analysis: This week’s episode of Scandal started off strong with the show’s leading ladies becoming a power duo and working together. Liv tells Mellie she needs to keep her ex-hubby from endorsing Susan Ross. It’s sad that Mellie wrote a book about how she finally found her own voice outside of the pres, yet she needs his voice to go further in her career. Two hookers are purchased and one of them ends up dead in the middle of her hotel floor. The agents said she died of a heroin overdose so the team gets busy cleaning up the mess which is led by Quinn, naturally.

Scandal 5×12 “Wild Card” Recap

Spoilers Ahead:

Everyone loves a hero.

Episode Summary: Rowan is back and so is Tom. Cyrus is evil. Liv is jealous of what Fitz and Jake are doing in their personal lives. David is leading Susan on again.

Review | Analysis: The stage is set thanks to Sally reminding everyone it’s election season. And of course we know what that means — drama. Rowan is back and we almost regret it. No one wants to see Liv and him bonding. I mean, look at last season. How could she even trust him or how could she accept the fact that he’s “okay” being retired? She later started becoming suspicious of him (what’s new?) and yet she was still not phased by his past.

Scandal 5×11 “The Candidate” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

One word ex-girfriend.

Episode Summary: Liv and Mellie team up to get Mellie elected as the 45th President of the United States.

Scandal 5×10″It’s Hard Out Here for a General” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Olivia left Fitz and is back at OPA.

Episode Summary: A big-name client gets Liv’s help when classified NSA files from her private computer get hacked. Mellie also gets Liv to assist her with writing her book.

Review | Analysis: Scandal’s midseason premiere was all about power and Olivia leaving the White House. It’s been months since she’s left Fitz and now she’s back “home,” at OPA. The gladiators aren’t the only family Liv has returned to. As the episode opens, we see her having dinner with the one and only, Rowan, aka Papa Pope. But do remember that a while back Liv was working with Jake to put Rowan in prison, except now everything has turned around. Liv is back having dinners with her father while Jake is his new roommate!

Scandal 5×09 “Rasputin” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Liv gets an abortion.

Episode Summary: Olivia makes a shocking decision that will change her relationship with Fitz forever.

Review | Analysis: Let’s be honest right now. We did NOT see what happened on the winter finale of Scandal coming. Like at all.

Christmas is supposed to a time where everyone is happy and whatnot, right? Well, not in Olivia’s case. She was miserable and everyone was noticing.

Mellie, seemed to have a problem with Fitz’s spending bill that he had coming up. Planned Parenthood was the issue and Mellie did not want to vote for that, so she started filibustering. All bow down to Mellie!

Scandal 5×08 “Even the Devil Deserves A Second Chance” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

David finds out Olivia is the one behind everything and she gets arrested.

Episode Summary: Olivia tries to figure out who is trying to kill her father, while Jake is trying to kill her father, and Fitz along with Cyrus and David are trying to do anything they can to find who released him.

Review | Analysis: Olivia’s happily ever after seems to be slowly drifting away. She was finally getting closer to Vermont, but some things are not meant to be. To be honest, I always thought Fitz would end up being the one to blame, but this is all on Liv. Think about it. She’s the one who let her father out who just so happened to have killed Fitz’s son AND she has been lying about it to both Mellie and Fitz when they know that she did it. No bueno!

Scandal has yet again, created another fictional country, The Republic of Bandar. The deal is that the U.S. has been trying to sign a disarmament deal with the country for a long time and it seems like it’s finally happening until a translator by the name of Navid, gets Liv’s attention at dinner and asks for asylum. In return, he offers the location of a secret nuclear facility.
