Song: “American Secrets”
Album: The Way It Was
We all have a few songs that have been there for us in our darkest hours. Songs that have made us feel less alone, less anxious, less overwhelmed, less shattered. Songs that have somehow made us forget why we were upset in the first place. The funny thing about music is that it doesn’t always make sense why something means so much to us. The lyrics don’t always have to match our life to the t. And that’s the case with Parachute’s “American Secrets”.
“American Secrets” is the song that’d manage to put my stressed, overwhelmed with finals self to sleep at nights. And today, as silly as it sounds, it’s still the song I immediately put on when a full moon has snuck its way right outside the window of my bed. It wasn’t always easy to enjoy pretty scenery for me when I was stressed with school, but “American Secrets” made it easier. I wish I could explain why, but it’s simply one of those things that I have yet to figure out. “American Secrets” is the song that effortlessly reminds me that ‘this too shall pass’ and for that, I’m grateful. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the beautiful seemingly endless summers I spent back home in our small town. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the dreams that I’ll never give up on no matter how far I run from them. I don’t know. All I know is that it’s a song I will cherish til I’m old and grey.

“Clean” — Taylor Swift
On Saturday (10/31/15) in Tampa, Florida, Taylor Swift made a beautifully inspirational speech about online bullies before this particular song, and if something moves us to tears, we need to share it with all of you.
“It’s hard to get those voices out of your head once they’re in there but the last couple of years, I’d say my favorite thing I’ve learned is that we are not the opinion of people who don’t know us or care about us. And you know when people say something to us it might stick in our minds, it’s almost like we’ve got these insecurities painted all over us because now we carry them everywhere we go, but the minute that you can learn to block out what people who don’t care about say to or about you, in front of you or behind your back, is the moment you look in the mirror is the moment you don’t see those things written all over you anymore. And you don’t feel like other people think that about you anymore. And in that moment, you’re clean.”

“My Song” – Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson (Nashville)
What’s better than a gorgeous uplifting tune sung by exceptionally talented people? Not much, world. And since the series is back, so are the wonderful songs.
Today’s mantra: stand up for yourself and in doing so, do something great for someone else as well. Remember that you’re special and no matter what anyone else says, it doesn’t define you. You are who you are because of the choices you make, and every single day you have the power to do wonderful things. It’s okay to stumble and fall, and if someone holds that against you, then it merely shows their own character – never yours.

“O” – Coldplay
There may very well be a global consensus on the supreme level of sincerity that reverberates throughout Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” album. Within the album, “O” easily takes the cake on conveying a truly heartfelt, honest, and humble take on what is perhaps considered the most sought after feeling , across the globe, across centuries, across time – love.
With a somewhat melancholic melody in the background, Chris Martin, in utmost sincerity, seeps into the depths of our souls. How pure it is to compare love to a flock of birds, an untainted, natural phenomenon. But like lovers, a flock of birds may disseminate and go their separate ways for a number of reasons.

“Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” – Backstreet Boys |x|
Each and every single person in this world has a purpose – a spark within ourselves that’s waiting to ignite our entire beings. The reason this song was chosen this week is because too often we see people torn between the words inside their heart, and the words the world has forced them to believe. Because of the sublime gifts we’ve been given, each of us no matter how similar, bring something into the world no one else can. Let’s take art for example, so often people have similar styles, but at the end of the day, no two people create the same way – no two people see the world in the same way. And there’s nothing more beautiful than that very fact. There’s room for everyone – there should be no competition – only creation.
If someone has ever told you that you aren’t good enough, you have the strength within you to show them that they’re wrong. You have the strength within you to prove that you’re made out of so much more than the words people have chosen to define you with. The most gorgeous entity about this particular song by the noted boyband is the fact that they describe finding truth in a child’s eyes. Children see endless beauty and possibilities in the world – they see the truth. The world can be a place filled with so much more if each and every person did their part to bring greatness. Whatever you do in life, through the gifts you’ve been given, authenticate the very fact that persistence and good character are everything. If you fight for your dreams, you’ll achieve them. In a world full of marvelous people, everyone is special in their own way. And if you create whatever your heart’s asking you too, you’ll make the child within you indescribably proud. Do everything in your power to ignore the people who have said you’ll never succeed. Ignore the voices that force you to see darkness and loneliness in your path. You are equipped with everything you need to rise – to show the world what you’re made of.

“Superheroes” – The Script
There’s never a time where The Script doesn’t create a hit that’s on replay for days. “Superheroes” is an inspiring number about making it, living life the way we’re meant to because success comes from not giving up. Strength comes from enduring it all. Strength comes from the heartaches and the happiness. Superheroes don’t just fight crime, they live their lives nobly without giving up on what they want to achieve.
