25 Inimitable Men 21/25
Luke Danes (Gilmore Girls)

I’m a firm believe that every good coffee shop needs a grumpy, plaid wearing, huge hearted owner. Who’s in agreement? Luke Danes was often the voice of reason in everything, and the most honest resident in Stars Hollow — making it so that any person who stepped into Luke’s felt like they were at home in spite of the fact that he didn’t agree with the way they lived their lives. And that’s easily what’s made Luke stands out — his nature to forgive and open up no matter what went on. His ability to love and be proud of people even if he didn’t have the most traditional way of showing it. Ultimately, if seven seasons taught us anything it’s that behind the grumpy diner owner is actually an openly giving man with a huge heart and outstanding wit.

This Week’s Most Exquisite TV Moment

November 20-26
Fall” | Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

With Thanksgiving being this week, it hasn’t been too busy on our TV screens, but with the series that have aired, we’ve been exposed to some very wonderful things. Timeless showcased the strength between the travel team beautifully. This Is Us dropped bombshells after another in an emotional Thanksgiving special. And Brooklyn Nine Nine gave us a glimpse into Amy Santiago’s family life. But it was in the final installment of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life where Lauren Graham took us on a journey that crushed our hearts.

If you’ve yet to watch the series, there are spoilers ahead. Continue reading

25 Nearest and Dearest 8/25
The Gilmore Girls (Gilmore Girls)

gilmroe-girls

For as long as I can remember I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls reruns on TV and thus, making it that I’ve seen the show about 20 times by now (it’s already time for another beginning to end re-watch). And when I was younger, I didn’t always understand the relationships between Emily, Lorelai, and Rory Gilmore. (But I do remember sobbing my eyes out at Rory’s high school graduation speech because in every way, my mother is my best friend, too.) There aren’t many relationships in the world as profound as that between a mother and daughter. And while I personally don’t know what that’s like to be a mother, I can understand that it must be the scariest, most overwhelmingly beautiful experience. Families have been complicated since the beginning of time, but perhaps that’s what makes it the most beautiful bond in the world. These are the people who have seen the ugliest sides of us and continue to love us boundlessly. Gilmore Girls is without a doubt the one show that’s written mother/daughter relationships most accurately in its complex, gorgeous form. And above all things, the series has authenticated the fact that at the end of the day, no matter how messy things get, these women will always have someone to lean on.

25 Love Stories 16/25
Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

criezzz

As Brooklyn Nine Nine’s Rosa Diaz once said “I just want Lorelai to be happy!” While Gilmore Girls has done the best job of showcasing the incomparable bond between mother and daughter, it’s also done wonderful work with the foreseen relationship between Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore. We may all have different teams when it comes to Rory’s relationship, but we almost feel certain that the majority of viewers shipped Luke and Lorelai like FedEx (what did we even call it back then?) When they first made an appearance on screen together, you just knew you wanted them together. It’d happen someday and it’d be beautiful because it was meant to be from the very start. Let’s be real, who doesn’t want to have a diner they go to everyday with a good looking “friend” who owns the place? And who doesn’t want to fall in love with the particular friend that’s always been there to offer a helping hand, coffee, and love. Luke and Lorelai are like coffee and bagels — a perfect combination that makes everything better. And that’s exactly what they did, they made each other and the situations they were in better.
