Once Upon A Time 6×09 “The Changelings” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Episode Summary: In flashbacks, we learn about Rumple’s mother after he steals a baby and summons the Black Fairy. And in present day Storybrooke, Aladdin becomes the Genie, Emma finds a weapon from her visions, and Belle gives birth to her son then sends him away for a better life.

Review | Analysis: Once Upon A Time is often great at maintaining an engaging speed with its storylines, but sometimes, there is such a thing as slowing things down, and pregnancies are one of them. Frankly, it’s disturbing and this should be the final time it’s ever done. Please and thank you. That said, Once Upon A Time’s “The Changelings” was a solid reminder of how much strength these characters, especially the woman, walk with.

November 20-26
Fall” | Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Timeless showcased the strength between the travel team beautifully. This Is Us dropped bombshells after another in an emotional Thanksgiving special. And Brooklyn Nine Nine gave us a glimpse into Amy Santiago’s family life. But it was in the final installment of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life where Lauren Graham took us on a journey that crushed our hearts.

Chicago P.D. 4×07 “300,000 Likes” and 4×08 “A Shot Heard Round the World” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

“Never hold back a rising star.”

Case Summary: In “300,000 Likes” a former prisoner is convicted of calling the shots from inside the prison walls. And in “A Shot Heard Round the World”, two officers are shot and killed after the entire department is targeted in what’s presumed to be revenge for police brutality. But what it turns out to be is an unstable human specifically targeting the unit because he was expelled from the Academy.

Review | Analysis: Chicago P.D.’s two-part fall finale was solid and it’s left viewers with a great deal to digest. But as it’s no surprise to any frequent reader, it’s the stories the team told that left me in awe. And due to the ugly crying that ensued, my mascara was gone before I could bust out the makeup removing wipes. Chicago P.D. has stood its ground uniquely because of its team and in the finale, things changed drastically.

Once Upon A Time 6×08 “I’ll Be Your Mirror” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Awkward — tonight’s episode was awkward, but nonetheless fascinating.

Episode Summary: It’s rare that an episode of Once Upon A Time doesn’t feature flashbacks, but “I’ll Be Your Mirror” needed its platform to tell a new story. When Regina and Emma’s plan backfires, and they’re sent behind the mirror, they meet the dragon there who’s controlled by the Evil Queen. But as she attempts to turn Henry’s heart dark, he makes the wiser choice and breaks the mirror instead freeing his mothers and setting the Evil Queen’s plans back.

Review | Analysis: At its core Once Upon A Time is a show about families and when darkness attempts to tarnish that, it’ll always win. “I’ll Be Your Mirror” proved that very sentiment beautifully in tonight’s episode giving Henry the opportunity to showcase what a brave individual he’s grown to be. And as the shining star in this week’s episode, it felt right for Henry, the truest believer, to set his moms free. “I’ll Be Your Mirror” gave the series the opportunity to allow families to outshine the villains but even though there’s more danger ahead, knowing this belief is embedded deeply in these characters instills hope in us all.

This Week’s Most Exquisite TV Moment

November 6-12
Heartless” Once Upon A Time

It’s been a quiet week in the TV-verse and a devastating week in the real world. FOX’s Pitch was pretty remarkable reminding us all of what an extraordinary team the San Diego Padres are. And Sunday’s episode of Madam Secretary finally put an end to the stalker situation the McCord family was dealing with. Through it all, thankfully, it was Once Upon A Time’s “Heartless” that’s remained as a captivating life through it all.

Chicago P.D. 4×06 “Some Friend” Recap

Spoilers Ahead

Case Summary: When a dead body is found in the house of a man Olinsky knows, things get personal in the Intelligence unit. And after Lindsay receives flowers that weren’t sent by Jay, concerns arise.

Review | Analysis: “Some Friend” was an acute example of how intriguing this show can be. It’s admirable to want to genuinely set a strong example for someone in order to help them improve their lives. But if that person doesn’t respond the honorable way, how do we respond that shows our character? The Intelligence unit and almost everyone who works for law enforcement does so because they selflessly seek justice, and while things don’t always go as planned, with the exception of Voight they’ve often reacted in ways that have been admirable.

Alvin Olinsky hasn’t been the focus of Chicago P.D. too often and when he is, the episode is always memorable. Olinsky’s empathy has been a bright light in a dark world, and “Some Friend”gave that light the opportunity to shine beautifully.

One heart, one curse, and perpetual weeping by all fans until this is resolved.

In present day Storybrooke, the Evil Queen finds a new way to torture the couple when she comes accepts that they’re willing to lay down their lives for the sake of the town.

Review | Analysis: Belief has often been an incredibly powerful theme in the world of Once Upon A Time and in “Heartless” it serves as a gorgeous reminder of hope. It’s this very belief which has strengthened our characters to the core reminding viewers that encouragement is a weapon we must all use to brighten up the days of our loved ones. Come what may, the Charming family has always found a way to happiness — no matter how brief it’s been, their adventures have been worthwhile. And with this new challenge arising in their paths, it is bound to make them even stronger. Snow and Charming were once on their own, but today, there’s an army behind them. This Week’s Most Exquisite TV Moment

October 30 – November 5
Wear It” | Pitch

We should really stop saying this week’s moment was difficult to choose because it seems the universe chooses to step it up every single week. But on a serious note, this was the toughest choice we’ve had to make since the season began. Sunday’s Once Upon A Time gave us yet another compelling and swashbuckling adventure. Timeless’ “The Alamo” fortified the team’s bond beautifully. The Flash and This Is Us played with family dynamics beautifully. The Cubs broke their 108 year curse with an intense game that went down in history. And Thursday’s Pitch dealt with mental health in a perfect episode that showcased our heroine’s deep struggles.

But Pitch’s choice to deal with such raw emotions was perhaps one of the best things I’ve ever watched as a TV fan.
