“Darkness Before Dawn” | Heartland
It was a pleasant week on television, but Heartland’s return from its winter hiatus was the most solid episode out of the bunch.
It’s a bit frustrating and overrated to watch Georgie constantly put her life in jeopardy, but for what it’s worth, “Darkness Before Dawn” solidified her relationship with Lou in a way nothing else would’ve. And when the two finally reunited after Georgie called her mom with her whereabouts, I loved watching the genuine adoration between the two illuminate Peter’s bland apartment. (Strange yes, but I mean c’mon dude, you could use some color in there). So when the two returned to Heartland later on, Lou’s choice to stay outside with Georgie as she took care of Phoenix was perfect. When it comes to mothers and daughters, there will always be misunderstandings, but for the first time since Georgie was adopted, it really felt as though she and Georgie were so much more than just a parent and a child. In this moment, they were friends too and Lou’s unparalleled bliss upon hearing Georgie’s desire to go on the girl’s trip was perhaps one of the most beautiful moments in Heartland history.
It’s also worth mentioning that it was sweet to watch Ty and Amy find serenity with each other all while Ty promising that he’d be there for every step of the way when the two have children. As sad as it is to say, Peter never felt like Lou’s best friend, he was just her husband and the father of her children, but with Ty and Amy, they’re everything to each other. And we can all be certain that when the two have children, it’ll be a superlative partnership.
