Breast Cancer Awareness Month

A year ago around this time, my mother went to her yearly testing for breast cancer. This time however, she was told that she had a tumor growing inside of her. A day, I will never fully forget. As heartbroken as my family was during those weeks, we remained hopeful for her. She received a double mastectomy and today, she is healthy and more in love with life than I have ever seen her.

And yes she has scars, as do thousands of women all over the world who have fought and defeated breast cancer. These scars are a reminder that you are alive, you fought, and you have so much to live for. Not having breasts does not make you any less of a woman. The important message in all of this, was that she got tested. Every single year, she got tested. The cancer was caught early, and she recovered quickly from what seemed like a very dark time.

To all you ladies, get checked every year; inform loved ones to get checked. To all you survivors, you are beautiful.
